Tottenham transfer news: Real Madrid tell Spurs they must trigger 700million release clause to sign target Marco Asensio
Tottenham have made contact with Real Madrid over the possible signing of Marco Asensio, but they will have to meet his mammoth release clause if they are to bring him to north London.According to AS, for Asensio to leave, Spurs would have to pay around 618million (700m) to trigger his release clause, with only Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema having higher clauses in the entirety of world football.Asensio is highly-rated but endured a tough season as Real struggled for form and resultsGetty Images - Getty1
Asensio is highly-rated but endured a tough season as Real struggled for form and results
Asensio, 23, has endured a tough season at the Bernabeu after his excellent 2017/18 campaign, having found the back of the net just once in LaLiga. However, he is a favourite of Zinedine Zidane’s, who was reappointed Los Blancos manager earlier this season, and is expected to play a key role under the France legend moving forward.Nonetheless, Spurs have shown interest in Asensio, who has scored 27 times for Real since debuting in 2016, but they are surely never going to pay the 700m needed to trigger his release clause. Spursare also reportedly interested in signing highly-rated winger Jack Clarke from Leeds. The 18-year-old has impressed at Elland Road this season, making 24 appearances as they narrowly missed out on automatic promotion from the Championship.
