From Sokratis at Arsenal to Alexis Sanchez at Manchester United: Every Premier League club’s most underwhelming player so far this season
Every club has someone the fans take their frustrations out on, don’t they? Here, talkSPORT.com looks at each side’s most underwhelming player – the one who bears the brunt of most complaints. It’s not that these players have flopped – they’ve just been below par.We are only 12 games into the Premier League season, though, so maybe some of them take time to get going…
Sokratis Papastathopoulos –Arsenal
20It would be unfair to pin all of the Gunners defensive frailties on the Greece international, but he looks distinctly average and a lack of athleticism was exposed in the early season defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea.Jordon Ibe – Bournemouth
20A talented, yet frustrating player, Ibe has struggled for consistency since his move from Liverpool to the south coast in 2016. Now a fixture on the Bournemouth bench, Ibe has stared one league match this season a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle.Alireza Jahanbakhsh – Brighton
20Chris Hughton broke the clubs transfer record to bring the forward to the Amex in a 17m summer deal having impressed at previous club AZ Alkmaar where he won the Golden Boot with 21 goals. In 10 Premier League matches he has yet to score or record an assist.Chris Wood – Burnley
20Europa League qualification last season has come at a price in 2018/19, as the Clarets languish in the bottom half with just two wins. A solitary goal from Wood has done little to ease the struggles at Turf Moor.Junior Hoilett – Cardiff
20A difficult debut season in the Premier League was to be expected for Neil Warnocks side and, while they have won two of their last four matches, the former Blackburn forward, who has no goals this campaign, is simply not the answer in their quest for survival.Andreas Christensen – Chelsea
20Yes, it seems harsh to include a man who is yet to feature in the league, but it sums up the Danes fall from grace who was a permanent fixture for the Blues under Antonio Conte. Shaky performances in the cup competitions this season will do little to change current boss Maurizio Sarris mind.Max Meyer – Crystal Palace
20Arriving with a big reputation from Schalke, Palace fans are still waiting to see the best from their diminutive midfielder. Meyer has shown flashes of his quality, but it has not been enough as Wilfried Zaha continues to carry the burden of creativity.Cenk Tosun – Everton
20Last season the forward led the line for Sam Allardyces side, finishing with a respectable five goals in 14 matches. However, he has since lost his place to the more explosive Richarlison and does not appear to suit the quicker style of the Toffees under Marco Silva this campaign.Ryan Sessegnon – Fulham
20Yes, yes, he is only 18 and incredibly talented, but after dominating every opposition full-back in the Championship last season, he has found life at the top isnt quite as easy. Fulhams struggles have highlighted the need for Sessegnon to rediscover his best form.Ben Hamer – Huddersfield
20Signed to provide competition for Jonas Lossl, Hamer begun the season as the Terriers no.1, but after conceding nine goals in three matches, including six against Manchester City, he was dropped from the side.Wes Morgan – Leicester
20A mainstay in the heart of the Leicester defence, Morgan has not been bad, it is just he has not looked anywhere like the dominating leader who helped Leicester win the league two years ago.Joel Matip – Liverpool
20It has been a difficult season for the defender under Jurgen Klopp. Having started just one league match, Matip has been unable to break up the Virgil van Dijk/Joe Gomez partnership and is apparently wanted by Claudio Ranieri at Fulham.Gabriel Jesus – Manchester City
20The form of Sergio Aguero has kept Jesus on the bench for much of this season. He has also struggled to regain his form from their title-winning campaign and has scored just one league goal in the 6-1 thrashing of Huddersfield. Things are looking up, though, with his hat-trick in the 6-0 hammering of Shakhtar.Alexis Sanchez – Manchester United
20Expected to kick on after a difficult debut season at Old Trafford, the former Arsenal star looks a shadow of himself and appears to be on borrowed time under Jose Mourinho.Kenedy – Newcastle United
20Excellent in the second half of last season, things have not quite worked out for the Brazilian who has failed to create a single chance this season. Kenedy also missed a last minute penalty against Cardiff in August.Shane Long – Southampton
20Goals continue to elude the Saints forward – five in the past three seasons tells its own story.Mousa Dembele – Tottenham
20Those barnstorming runs and powerful midfield displays appear to be a thing of the past for the Belgian, who has been inconsistent this season.Abdoulaye Doucour – Watford
20He simply has been nowhere near as good as he was last season considering he took home both the Fans and Players Player of the Year award at Watfords end of season bash.Jack Wilshere – West Ham
20Wilshere swapped Arsenal for West Ham in the hopes of changing his fortune, but the midfielder was again struck down with injury. He required ankle surgery and will be hoping to force his way back into the Hammers side ahead of the festive period.Romain Saiss – Wolves
20The Moroccan international has found opportunities hard to come by for the newly-promoted Wolves this season. He joined in 2016 and both his appearances have come from the bench, though it cant be easy when youre battling Joao Moutinho for a place.

Despite a series of mistakes last term Emery has kept faith in Petr Cech in all five of Arsenal's Premier League games thus far, meaning Leno had to wait until Thursday night to make his debut. I came to the club to play every game. But I think to move to a bigger club, another country, it needs maybe a little bit of time.

I think it will come down to wages. Man United can pay a reported £500,000-a-week. I don't think Arsenal will be paying Sanchez £500,000-a-week. So, again, the player will look at the situation and say, 'I'm not playing on a regular basis, but my wages are so big I don't want to be losing £200,000-a-week just to play football.
